Sick of Spam?

Change some of your (and your friends) internet behavior habits, and rid yourself forever!

So you want to rid yourself of spam? Good! This is how:

Undoubtedly, you have spam in your current email box. Forget about filters, or trying to “remove me” from lists. (It’s well documented that after you say “remove me” they now have a verified email, and they shout for joy, and sell/lease/trade/give/misplace your email as a verified email to another spammer, or just send you more spam that doesn’t look like them.) You need a new email, a “Personal” email only. If you want a new free email, I suggest Gmail.

1. I suggest you pick a name like, j4ard, instead of Jared@gmail.com. Spambots use dictionaries of names to mass spam.

2. Never use your personal email for business.

3. Never use your personal email as the email to order or buy or especially to get free stuff.

4. Never post your email in a public forum, even if it is small.

5. Never post it anywhere on the internet.

While they may claim to be legitimate companies, and they may vow never to share your email address with anyone, many things could happen:

A. They may hit on hard times, and figure everyone is getting so much spam anyways, they could sell their list and nobody would ever know.

B. One single internal IT guy could get offered $10,000 to sell the list. It takes him 10 seconds to send it, what do you think he’ll do?

C. Most companies use a third party to process the orders or to process the credit card, your email is attached to these orders, and they may share/trade/exchange/give your email to others, or A and B still apply.

Bottom line you just can’t trust anything anywhere, even some of your friends! Keep it 100% private.

Now, I have had spam free email for years and years, and I have that because before I throw out my email address to someone, I give them the following caveat: (Feel free to give them a link to this page, or cut and paste it)

This is my new spam free PERSONAL email only. I would just say, don’t put this email out on the internet, but then still people don’t understand. To explain that further, for those that don’t know how spammers get their email addresses: (read every single one)

Do NOT fill in this address ANYWHERE on the internet inviting me to interesting websites!

Do NOT fill in this address ANYWHERE on the internet forwarding me E-CARDS!

Do NOT fill in this address ANYWHERE on the internet forwarding me interesting articles!

Do NOT fill in this address ANYWHERE on the internet forwarding me interesting auctions!

Do NOT fill in this address ANYWHERE on the internet for birthday reminders services!

Do NOT fill in this address ANYWHERE on the internet for email address update changes!

Do NOT fill in this address ANYWHERE on the internet in a newsgroup!

Do NOT fill in this address ANYWHERE on the internet in a forum!

Do NOT fill in this address ANYWHERE on the internet asking me to join you with a chat program!

Do NOT fill in this address ANYWHERE on the internet using a service to update your email addresses!

Do NOT fill in this address ANYWHERE on the internet asking me to join in a cool service or internet tool!

Do NOT fill in this address ANYWHERE on the internet asking me to get free movie tickets if I sign up my friends!

Do NOT fill in this address ANYWHERE on the internet on an e-bay or yahoo auctions!

Do NOT fill in this address ANYWHERE on the internet for things that say they will not “sell” your email to others (they’ll lease, give, or trade it)!

Do NOT forward me email PETITIONS claiming to “gain enough signatures” or to find a lost child, or some outrageous atrocity, they are all fake! Go to Google it to see if it’s fake! You’ll find out in 1 second it is.

Do NOT use this email for forwards for cute things, pictures, funny stories, inspirational stories, jokes, or petitions, etc. that other people have forwarded you!*

Do NOT fill in this address ANYWHERE on the internet – AT ALL – get it??? DO YOU UNDERSTAND? NOTHING!

*You may think this is innocent enough to hit forward and throw me in your list, but these lists WILL be harvested on*someone’s computer* along the line. It’s not only not polite, but someone who has spyware/virus (or any variation in-between) on their machine that reads and records all email addresses then sends them to a spammer, soon enough your email will be poised and ruined forever. And I will have you to blame. And I will. No joke, it happens all the time. If you forward it to twenty people, and they do the same, four or five forwards later, 3.2 million to 64 million people have your email on their computer. What is the chances that someone has a malicious virus or spyware on their computer that harvests emails? Well over 90% of computers have spyware on them. You do the math. AND considering people that incessantly forward things are significantly not as smart as others in the computer world, (they are also probably amused by big noises and shinny things too) I highly doubt they will be smart enough to have up-to-date anti-spyware definitions on their computer, and it has been installed correctly (installed on their computer BEFORE they even got on the internet to be immunized). If you’re going to send a forward, be polite and cut out all the email addresses it’s been sent to in the past and cut out all those >>>>> marks out, and send it to one person at a time.

Go here (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html) for the best Anti-Spyware software there is. It’s FREE. (Even better than the stuff you pay for)

So, do you get it? This is only for *personal* email communication, (when *you* type the email!)

You can feel totally free to send all forwards/e-cards/interesting articles/petitions or the like to ________@hotmail.com / yahoo.com

And that’s it. BE DILIGENT! IF you don’t give these rules to everyone you give your email address to, I promise you that they will forward you some stupid article or link from some service, then within 2 months you will be getting more spam than email and you’re account is ruined all together, forever. I would strongly berate them, then get a new email again, and not inform them of your change. It’s actually not hard nor painful. Send your new email to trusted people, (not the person who sent your the article that spoiled your email box) along with this caveat reminder, and you’ll be spam free for a few more years no doubt.

I personally have several email accounts for spam filtering. But you should need more than two. One personal, one public. But I have:

1. I use one hotmail account for stuff I’m sure I don’t need to ever check. When I sign up for some “free stuff” I use that email address. It’s a hotmail account and it’s set to “exclusive” which means it all goes into junk.

2. I have another hotmail account for stuff that I may check every once in a while, like I signup for newsletters, or free stuff that looks reputable or needs verification by email.

3. I have another hotmail account I use for all business/email/banking/bills or PEOPLE THAT ALWAYS SEND FORWARDS!!!

4. Then I have my own personal email that I never let out to anyone who doesn’t understand the above rules. Some people, even very close people, who I know don’t understand the above, for years I give them my spam accounts. If you agree to the above rules and understand them, and you’d like to email me at thats email, is …. yeah right.
